CURB – Center for Architecture and Urbanism, the University of Saint Joseph, Macau, and the Chiba Institute of Technology, Tokyo organized the “INFILL – Creating a Community Centre” Workshop between the 27thand 31stof March. Ar. Nuno Soares, director at CURB, Thomas Daniell, Head of the Department of Architecture at the University of Saint Joseph, and Souhei Imamura, Associate Professor at Chiba Institute of Technology, Japan were coordinators of the initiative.

The main focus of the workshop was to investigate Macau’s historical urban fabric, specifically in Largo Pau Kung Miu, the unused and overlooked public spaces, and to maximize their positive social, economic and symbolic impact through architecture and urban design. The four days programme were divided between lectures, site visits, debates and a design competition.

The INFILL workshop is a multi-format initiative conceived by CURB to research the existing city, its architecture and urban fabric, and to propose strategies, policies and design speculations aiming to explore the potential of positive transformation from within.
