The third edition of SaloneSatellite, a competition between 34 young Chinese designers from top local universities, happened in Shanghai. The promising young talents had to create a piece of furniture that embodied both tradition and innovation, memory and digital effects.
The jury committee was formed by top professionals in design and related areas, such as Nuno Soares, acting head of the Department of Architecture, University of Saint Joseph, Macau, who participated in the competition in ___(year); Livio Ballabio, creative director of Jumbo Group; Frank Chou, designer in Frank Chou Design Studio; Michele De Lucchi, architect; Wang Gang, artistic director of Shanghai Hantang Culture Development; Aurelio Magistà, journalist, La Repubblica; Maria Porro, marketing manager; Matteo Urbinati, design coordinator of Foscarini; Patrizia Malfatti, head of communication and press relations of Salone del Mobile.Milano; Marva Griffin Wilshire, founder and coordinator of SaloneSatellite. Huang Jing won the first prize with a multi-function lamp, the “Flapping Bamboo”.
Continuing the Milan’s previous year main theme, the projects presented in Shanghai were under the “AFRICA & LATIN AMERICA: Rising Design” inspiration, exploring the connection between the two continents. SaloneSatellite is part of the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, an annual Italian design furniture fair founded in 1961 that showcases the latest in “living Italian style”.
