Ar. Nuno Soares and his team at CURB – Centre for Architecture and Urbanism developed the research project “Macau Digital Mapping: Georeferencing and Visualizing Urban Data”, funded by the Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT).
The project consists of a digital platform with interactive map cartography in which statistical data from Macau is centralized, treated and visualized in a user-friendly way. It is easily accessible in laptops and smartphones and free of charge, providing tools to local citizens and global users. Furthermore, the platform allows a comparative analysis between Macau and other leading world cities.
On the website there are different categories in which we can analyze Macau: which areas of town are used for commercial or industrial purposes, where do young people gravitate towards, or even where do the cultural or sports resources are.
This marks Macau as an innovative smart city that holds unique urban conditions and that is in a crucial phase of development, and sound understanding of its dynamics.
The fund was given under the program “Projeto de Aplicação e Solução da Cidade Inteligente de Macau” and CURB was one of 13, among 108 applicants, to win the subsidy.
