The “Walk-through Bookshelf” was a temporary installation at Taipa central library in Macao, organized as part of the 120th anniversary of the establishment of Macao´s Central Library, as part of the Reading Promotion named “Livros ao Sol 2015”. Ar. Nuno Soares was invited to create a custom made temporary structure to install inside the library and promote the reading of forgotten books. This installation was on display through the month of January 2016.
The project main idea was to blend the border between readers and books, by creating an interactive landscape where people could search, select, walk along, pass-through, climb or seat to read a book.
So while libraries are made of many bookshelves, this installation is a single 8 meters long bookshelf willing to become a space and ultimately a library, by transforming its shape to accommodate all the activities and user requirements.
